Nicole Thorne

Hammond Organ

B3 Madness is a dynamic Jazz Hammond Trio, performing an exciting combination of Nicole's compositions and standards. Nicole has performed extensively as a jazz pianist at festivals and venues around Melbourne. Nicole originally studied organ from the age of 12-18. She then played jazz piano with trumpeter Toby Mak in a band Dry Ice, with the support and encouragement of Gil Askey. Nicole studdied jazz piano with Helen Jowsey, who later introduced her to the VCA where she taught by Bob Sedergreen. She has used her experience, knowledge and skills a pianist/organist, and adapted these to develop a very personal, unique Hammond Sound. Female Jazz organists are a rarity in Australia, Nicole Thorne's love of organ was revived with the purchase of a Hammond B3 in 2005. Nicole's unusually extensive use of the organ foot pedal bass, learnt in her formative years, gives her dynamic musical flexibility. This makes for a visually exciting and musically entertaining performance

B3Madness is an organ trio that aspires to the impressionistic and expressionistic. The band’s goal is to create fresh, new music that always feels ‘live’, featuring spirited improvisation. B3Madness is looking to create contemporary jazz while reflecting the history of great organ trios of the past century.
